All GRAYL guides
GRAYL’s system is built around press-style purifier bottles with replaceable cartridges. At 68travel, the range includes standard and titanium GeoPress and UltraPress bottles, the correct cartridges for each family, a one-way drink-mix valve, and a legacy Ultralight replacement filter.
The fastest way to choose is by capacity: GeoPress treats 710 ml per cycle, while UltraPress treats 500 ml and is more compact.

The titanium outer cups can be used separately for heating water or cooking. Titanium does not change the cartridge family or purification speed.
The GeoPress cartridge fits the 710 ml GeoPress family, including GeoPress Ti. It is rated for up to 350 cycles or 250 litres.
The UltraPress cartridge fits the current 500 ml UltraPress family, including UltraPress Ti. It is rated for up to 300 cycles or 150 litres.
The separately listed Ultralight Replacement Filter is described for the older Ultralight Compact Purifier. It should not be selected as a substitute merely because “Ultra” appears in both names. Current UltraPress owners should use the cartridge explicitly sold for UltraPress.
The GRAYL One-Way Valve lets users add electrolytes or drink mix to the clean-water side while reducing backflow through the cartridge.
Two versions are listed:
GeoPress: for second-generation cartridges with horizontal flow channels.
UltraPress / UltraLight: compatible with the relevant UltraPress or UltraLight cartridge design.
Choose the variant by bottle family. Do not wash the purifier cartridge with soap; the removable silicone valve has its own cleaning instructions.
GRAYL bottles separate source water in the Outer Cup from treated water in the Inner Press. As the Inner Press moves down, water passes through the cartridge. Published performance includes viruses, bacteria, and protozoan cysts, plus filtration of sediment and microplastics and reduction of many chemicals, heavy metals, tastes, and odours.
That makes the system relevant to:
international travel;
hiking and camping;
overland and vehicle-based travel;
emergency kits;
buyers who want a replaceable-cartridge purifier rather than a disposable bottle.
you want 710 ml per cycle;
you often fill another bottle;
two people may share purification;
extra capacity matters more than minimum packed size.
you travel solo;
your pack pockets are narrow;
you value a 354 g standard bottle;
500 ml per cycle is enough.
you will genuinely use the outer cup for heating or cooking;
multi-use camp gear is worth the additional price and weight;
you understand that the purifier parts must be removed before exposing the outer cup to heat.
Published cartridge capacity is a planning figure, not a guarantee for every source. Silty, sediment-heavy, or tannin-rich water shortens life. Replace a cartridge when press time reaches around 25 seconds under normal conditions, or three years after first use. Unused airtight cartridges have a published shelf life of up to ten years when stored correctly.
GRAYL purifier bottles do not desalinate seawater or brackish water. They are not intended for industrial disasters, extreme chemical contamination, nuclear incidents, or toxic blue-green algae. Always choose the clearest suitable freshwater and follow local advisories.
Technical figures and operating limits on this page are based on GRAYL's published specifications and instructions:
These are manufacturer-published benchmarks, not a guarantee for every source. Press time and cartridge life vary with water quality, sediment, temperature, cartridge age, and user technique. Use suitable freshwater only: GRAYL cartridges do not desalinate salty or brackish water and are not intended for industrial spills, extreme chemical contamination, nuclear incidents, or toxic blue-green algae. Follow local advisories and choose another source when conditions exceed the manufacturer's guidance.
