Product Description
Sundials with compasses were the first portable timepieces from the 15th century onward. The compass aligned the dial to the south, and the gnomon - a cord or folding triangle - cast a shadow that indicated solar time on the scale. Their golden age lasted until the end of the 18th century.
Kepler is a rectangular diptych in a wooden case. When closed, it serves as a compass: the lid features a compass rose with a needle for 32 points, allowing you to determine direction. When open, it shows solar time. Its brass dials and carefully crafted decoration make it a piece that belongs on a shelf just as much as in your hand.
Suitable for collectors, teaching the history of astronomy, or as a gift for someone interested in science and historic navigation.
